Why Good Old Fashion Soap Is Your Best Option Against COVID-19

As the COVID-19 virus spreads you may find yourself hoarding hand sanitizer, but why is the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommending soap and water as the top way to clean our hands? While hand sanitizer seems like the most effective way to protect yourself, good old fashion soap not only rinses your hands of the virus, but renders it harmless by separating the chemical bond that holds the virus together.*

It doesn’t need to be anti-bacterial or other chemical laden cleansers either. Our traditional lye soaps are packed with oils that help break down the virus (and leave your hands nice and smooth)! There are many options to choose from, such as our vegan/all natural Lavender soap, top selling Tobacco Flower soap, or the completely unscented Castille soap.

The trick here though is that it takes a little bit of time for the soap to effectively clean all the little creases in your hands, which is why it is recommended that you scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds! To help with this, here are some recommendations for songs with choruses lasting at least 20 seconds. Truth Hurts by Lizzo is one of our personal favorites!

  • "Love On Top," by Beyoncé
  • "Truth Hurts," by Lizzo
  • "Jolene," by Dolly Parton
  • "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," from the Wizard of Oz
  • "The Sound of Music," from The Sound of Music
  • "My Shot," from Hamilton
  • "Hands Clean," by Alanis Morisette
  • "Karma Chameleon," by Culture Club
  • "Stayin' Alive," by The BeeGees (also a favorite song for performing CPR)
  • "Toxic," by Britney Spears
  • "Livin' On a Prayer," by Bon Jovi
  • "No Scrubs," by TLC
  • "Raspberry Beret," by Prince
  • "Landslide," by Fleetwood Mac
  • "Love Shack" by The B-52's

One final consideration, as you find yourself washing your hands and using products with high alcohol content you may notice your hands are starting to become more dry and even start cracking. Once your hands start to crack you are more likely to introduce the COVID-19 and  other viruses and bacteria into your system.

To prevent this, be sure to hydrate your skin with lotions or creams and know that you may find yourself needing more hydration than usual. If your hands are already cracked, our Calendula Butter Cream is highly recommended by professionals, such as teachers and nurses, who frequently wash their hands!

Stay safe… and wash your damn hands!
